About Me

I am a writer based in Reading, in the south of England. Currently, I study philosophy and literature at the University of Warwick.

I am interested in semiotics, the philosophy of language, and the felt effects of the social internet.

Often, my work converges on all three topics, asking how modern amenities and linguistic conventions have changed how we speak to one another, how we think, and how we choose to signify ourselves as individuals and in a collective environment.

My Writing

When I was very young, I wrote a twelve-line work of fiction for My First Story – Berkshire & Oxfordshire, a school initiative that allowed me to see my writing in print for the first time.

From that point on, I busied myself with trying to write for publication, chasing that feeling of seeing my words, plucked out of thin air by my brain, in print, backed by editors and publishers with real credit and real stakes.

I tried, at various times in my life, to engage with writing at different levels. Almost nothing about my approach was consistent, save for my unwavering failure to produce something meaningful. I wrote the opening chapters to forever-unfinished novels in tacky writing apps. I wrote vacuous poetry in a notebook for largely aesthetic purposes. I wrote for social media, for trends, for attention, for money (in vain), but I hadn’t yet figured out how to write, what to write about, or why I liked writing.

As I grew up, I started to figure out the answers to those questions. I wrote more for myself, about things in which I was genuinely interested, in a style which was not an emulation of my favourite authors and essayists, but completely my own, even if it were worse off for it.

I started to genuinely like writing, almost a decade after that time I got a book in the mail and flipped it to page 173 to see my own name in the accreditations.
